Introducing Bristan,

Built by Mr Brain Stanford (74). Started February 2004, Completed March 2006

The project was started in the bedroom of a pensioners bungalow and completed in a wood and plastic leantoo made by the builder. It was built in two pieces from drawings of the car, the first part being the front. The two photographs above show the first stages of construction using chipboard to make the initial shape. Then spray foam is added, carved and rubbed down to reach the final shape before the final coat of fibreglass is added.

Once the front end was complete work began on the rear section using the same materials. When both sections were complete they were transferred to the leantoo and joined together.
The cockpit cover (left) was carved from a solid block of polystyrene, sanded to shape and finished with fibreglass resin.

The project is well on the way but now comes more hard work to complete the finishing touches. The glasswork had to be pre-formed with wood and specially made by glass makers.
Believe it or not the paintwork was achieved with 84 tins of aerosol paint and many hours of hard work.
The upholstery was hand made by the builder using staples and glue with no stitches.
All the electrical work was carried out by Lancs & Lakes member Bill Squires.

Cost: £2000 Approximate

Value: No value can be put on this handmade one off work of art. To have one made by a manufacturer would cost many thousands.
Many more photos will appear here soon. Keep checking!
